I've created a list of the best supported hardware for Linux and formatted it to fit on a single printed page (PDF format).

Perfect for trips to the computer store!

Any feedback is appreciated.

We'd also like to add a "Best Buy" recommendation in each category (perhaps for high-end and low-end). What is the best Video Card, best NIC, etc. and why?

UPDATE: Version 3 of the PDF seems to fix all problems people were having opening the file.

I imagine that you're using a mysql or postgresql backend for this... but in teh article listing, the order is backwards. Generally, you want the most recent articles at the top.

The text of this file came up all garbled in gpdf. I then ran it through imagemagick. (ran pdf2ps and then ps2pdf on it) and then i could read it. I can send you screen shots and the resulting pdf if you so desire. Although the quality doesn't seem to pretty (dunno if its cause of what i did to it, or from the original file.)

Good observation. I switched the order.

Yeah I have the same problem in gpdf. It's some font problem between OpenOffice and gpdf as I mentioned in the original post. I'll experiment with this.

If anyone here is able to print it, please let me know how that goes (I don't have a printer).

Using ggv as the default handler in Mozilla opened it fine.

I also tried opening it in WinXP using FireFox and I got this error:

File does not begin with '%PDF-'.

I don't know if this is a problem with your file or my computer. But I am usally able to open PDFs with this setup.

Success!

Using OpenOffice's print to postscript (.PS) feature and the ps2pdf utility I created a PDF which seems to open fine in all viewers. I also changed the font along the way, because I think that was causing the problem where the file would open but would look all garbled (it is now in the Utopia font).

Thanks for all the feedback and please let me know if you have any problem opening v1.3.

Also, if anyone could try printing it that would be helpful.

And then, finally, how is the content? Something that might be useful?

lagdawg, what version of the file did you try? I think v1.2 and v1.3 both work in Adobe Reader (is that what you're using?)

sharth, could you please remove your link to the file in the previous post? the link is aleady outdated.

This is the page that has the document and will always work: http://linuxadvocate.org/articles.php?p=2
