I have installed RH 7.2. It seems to run ok but uses a lot of memory. I have 196 MB or RAM. After running a few games, Opera and Mozilla 94% of my memory is shown as used by System Info and no Swap space. The memory usage just keeps climbing even after shutting down the applications. Why is this? Shouldn't my system be relaiming the memory used by these apps? I installed gnome and some of its associated apps.

Thanks,

I'm having the exact same problem. I have 512 megs of ram. My system never ever slows down no matter how much stuff I open and close, so I haven't bothered with it too much. It'd be nice if there was a solution though.

In general, Linux will "use" most of your physical RAM, and this is a Good Thing. There are plenty of posts here about that part of it .

You shouldn't be cracking into that amount of swap with 192M of RAM, though. Try running top from a term window to view the active processes and see if you can spot the memory hog.
