Hey I would like to know if the PC headset works in UT2004 for Linux? Any success?
The reason why I ask is because I want to buy a Logitech (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/productlist/US/EN,CRID=511) headset to play UT2004 online.
Thanks :D

I'll have to remember to look at this later...
it does work, but I think there might of been a trick or two to get it to work.
I have not tried it yet, but my wife thinks I should so the other players on my team can hear what I call them most of the time :D
Teamwork people! There are objectives you know!!
I have a link at home that talks about the mic in ut2004...just post back to this and I'll see it, I'm on my way there soon ;)

Here it is at LinuxGames.com (http://www.linuxgames.com/news/feedback.php?identiferID=6562&action=flatview)
there are two links, one for text-to-speach and another for VoIP (using the mic)
Let us know if these really do help!

Also, I found this in the ut2004 mailing list this morning (coincidence?)
I use alsa with the cmipci driver, so I'll
describe that. To disable the mic output and keep the mic input enabled
is as simple as opening alsamixergui (or whatever volume control you
prefer) and muting the mic channel (turning off the green speakers) but
keep the red indicator on for the mic. The procedure should be similar
for other configurations.
I need to get another line extender so I can try using the mic, so I won't get to try for a while...

I'm going to see if I can get the headset this week or if not the microphone. Whichever doesn't matter. Once I get it and try it out and works I'll reply.
Thank you so much.
:D :D :D

One more note, Ryan Gordon replyed to that and said this
We are actually capturing all the time with ut2004, but we throw away
the data when you aren't hitting V. We also have the ability to drop the
gain on all audio output while you're recording.
And for those that don't know, Ryan is the guy that did the port ;)

The mic is constantly accepting input, but the game does not do anything with it until you hit the "v" key (default for 'voice chat')
(puts it in /dev/null)
We also have the ability to drop the
gain on all audio output while you're recording.
Gain: 1. The amplification characteristic of an electrical or mechanical device. 2. The amount of volume that may be achieved before acoustical feedback occurs.
In otherwords...they can allow the mic to be more sensitive to sounds before we start getting that cool heavy metal feedback sound :)

I bought the Logitech Premium Stereo Headset and plugged it in my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS and I can hear myself through the speakers fine, but when I try to command my team AI it seems like it's not working.
Maybe I didn't configure my mic mixer correctly; I hope.
Oh and the button for team chat is F not V. I kept hitting V and what pops out is the pre-commands.

I see what you're trying...the voice recognition part of the game...
I don't know if that does work in UT, I've heard something about it but it's not mentioned very often (everyone seems fixated on online play, forgeting that most servers are running more bots then players!)
Nothing mentioned in the bug reports at https://bugzilla.icculus.org
But I did find one posting at LinuxGames.com that says it doesn't work...
There's no speech recognition in the Linux version, unfortunately. That's why you can't control your bots via voice
And another one from a linux-gamers.net post
voice commands do and will not as they rely on the voice recognition subsystems available in windows.
So yet again...Linux Gamers get the short end of the stick
Maybe if we can find some decent free voice recognition software for Linux we could ask Ryan if this can be incorporated into the game somehow?

That bytes BIG TIME. The only thing I can find is Team Speak (http://www.teamspeak.org/) and that ain't going to do any good, though I wonder if it will work with Quake 3? **wishfull thinking**
