If so, is the performance any better on Linux than on Windows? gcb 11-29-2001, 10:35 PM oh yeah...i play it all the time... i have an athlon900 tnt2 376MB ram...i can't tell any difference in the performance between windows and linux... i suggest you download the linux installer & v436 patch & play away, man...then grap a copy of the new infiltration... Ludootje 11-30-2001, 02:32 PM is it also downloadable in rpm, or even better, is there a binary for it? Siskmarek 11-30-2001, 03:14 PM This should be under "Linux Games" =') The patch is already a binary install. All you need is your Windows UT CD and the latest 436 patch (go to www.planetunreal.com (http://www.planetunreal.com) under their files section to get it) and you're set. Pop in and mount the CD, then run the installer. If it doesn't appear to be executable, then do "chmod +x ut436install.run" or something and then all you should have to do is "./ut436install.run". (it's a good idea to run it as root) It will bring up a nice little install window in X asking you where you would like to put it.. choose where and then install it. After that you should be able to type "ut" and it will start up a game! I have noticed that despite what the installer says and what you choose, it doesn't create entries in your application menu for it.. but it's easy enough to add the entries.. but screw that. If you use KDE you can hit ALT+F2, type in ut and run.. much faster than the mouse! ~ Siskie Mr Myaghi 11-30-2001, 03:21 PM I've heard that the frame rate is even higher in linux than in windows!!? Siskmarek 11-30-2001, 03:33 PM As for performance vs windows and linux... I think windows can squeeze out a few more fps, but honestly that doesn't matter unless you're some hard-core overclocker. With the right graphics card, UT is VERY playable under Linux... actually.. on my bros computer UT plays better under Linux than under Windows for him... ~ Siskie luisjpr 12-01-2001, 12:33 AM I just ran the installer but when trying to run the game it gave me a segmentation fault. How the heck can I fix the seg fault? StarMoose 01-23-2002, 11:11 PM I am having the same problem. Anyone know what to do? StarMoose 01-24-2002, 04:31 PM Loki games, which made the linux port, does not have a demo listed, so I doubt it. BTW, is typeing chmod -x ut436install.run and then ./ut436install.run the same as sh ut436install.run? justlinux.com
