Looking to migrate from Windows to Linux. Using Thunderbird in Windows. How do I migrate my mail, contacts and settings to Thunderbird in Linux? BTW, I have a dual boot system, but I haven't yet figured out a way to mount my FAT32 partitions under Linux,

They are both compatable, just move the folder from Windows to Linux and it will work

I think the main folder will be named different but you want to copy the folder that is garbage charactures...

For mounting fat32 (a quick search would find this)

mkdir /mnt/windows
mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows

That is of course if hda1 is the Windows drive, change accordingly ;)

I already have TB installed under Linux. What effect will moving the Windows folder into Linux have on the program? If there is no problem with that, what folder do I move and where do I put it? (Sorry if the answer is obvious - I'm REALLY new to Linux).

I don't know what the Thunderbird directory structure looks like, but let me check I think I have this on my laptop...

OK, they are the same

In Windows (I'm using 2000) it's the Documents and Setting -> username -> Application Data -> Thunderbird -> Profiles -> default -> <random generated id>

move that folder to the Linux part at ~/.thunderbird/default

I've never tried this with Thunderbird (I hardly use it) but this works with Mozilla and FireFox

Refer to: http://texturizer.net/thunderbird/share_mail.html
to see how to share mail between Windows and Linux. I haven't tried this, but will when I get a chance.

What is so darn hard about including a descriptive subject instead of just 'Thunderbird'? :rolleyes:

Manually edited the subject myself and now the JL members will know what you are asking about Thunderbird.
