The subject says it all.

I have a directory /initrd with no files in it. What is supposed to go in there?
I also have a /mnt directory. I don't mount anything under /mnt. Is there any reason why I shouldn't rm -r it?

/initrd if for initial ram disk usage

/mnt is traditionally a generic mountpoint but some distros have added devices like /mnt/cdrom which I hate cause if you need to use your cdrom and a mountpoint for testing at the same time you'll have to create another mountpoint.
