the belkin uses the realtek 8139 chipset, very linux friendly, they are available for about $10 shipped here (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=696472&highlight_key=y&keyword1=belkin)

The 3com 900 series is really good, imo.
1. SMC-1211TX (uses the rtl8139 or 8139too module)
2. Netgear FA-311. (uses the natsemi module)
I had to wrangle with the Netgear a bit under Rh 6.2, but not in Mandy 8.0. The SMC just worked, period (in both distros)- no muss, no fuss.

I use a D-Link 220P (ISA) and an AOpen (PCI) (forget the model #)
Modules are a different matter. I use ne.o for the 220 and a realtek 8139 (rtl8139.0)for the 530.
Finding the right modules was hell for me but I'm still a n00b. The ppl here helped tons too.
i user a D-Link 530 TX+ it has the realtek 8139 (rtl8139) chipset too, it works great and both Slack & Redhat got it right the first time perfictly...

I have these three running: Intel PCI EtherExpress Pro (eepro100), 3Com509b (ISA), NetGear FA 311 (natsemi, PCI not precompiled into 2.2.19, but 2.4.x). Any of those should work fine.

I have a Allied Telesyn AT-2400 PCI card.
It's the plain jane card that the @home guy installed in my computer almost 3 years ago. I've ran redhat 6, 6.1, slack 7.1 and slack 8 with the card. Never gave me a problem. I think its also called a realtek, not sure about that.

Two 3Com 3C905's that I have work like dreams, and the Linksys LNE100TX is also quite nice for the price.

I dunno, I picked mine up for $5.00 at the local campus supply store. Mine came with a full tower Gateway 2K 386, w/32MB RAM, 840 MB harddrive. I could go get you one, but I imagine shipping on those full towers is cost prohibitive. All kidding aside, try finding one of those ISA cards used somewheres maybe. Good Luck

I have got 5 3C905b-TX at home, and have never seen a problem... The only thing were some duplex-things which were gone after changing from hub to switch.
With now another 8 of the newer 3C905c-TX-M at work, well, it couldn't go better.

The link you supplied is broken for non-members (I think). I just bought a Belkin NIC for $10 CDN. I think it actually uses a clone of the realtek chipset. I haven't tried the NIC yet, so I can't say if it works or not.
I have used the following:
d-link 530-tx (uses the via-rhine driver. Many people mistakenly refer to the 530-tx+ as the 530-tx. The tx+ uses the realtek chipset)
aopen (realtek card)
3com 3c905tx and a 3c5(something)
Good luck!

Real Tek 8139 works great for me on every Linux that I have tried. Mandrake, Debian/LibraNet, etc. Cheap too!

Cheap Realtek 8139 based cards are cool. I bought 5 of them about 8 months ago for $6 each (local, no shipping). They are QENE SOHO series fast ethernet adapters. Just look for the cheapest Realtek 8139 based NIC.
I have a few intel NIC's too. Old intel 100b works great with x86 solaris (is actually detected on install).

carp, forgot to check it, its fixed now
i have one of them in my wife's pc, works fine
Dell sold a bunch of them for $0.99 a couple months ago, so they have flooded the used market, that link is to a for sale thread on www.anandtech.com (http://www.anandtech.com)

i use a netgear fa310tx and it also works perfectly, im not sure how much they cost though, my friend gave it to me.
your best bet is probably checking out the redhat hardware compatibility list, it has the list of all compatible hardware and a 'meter' of how easy they are to install.
good luck

Original Netgear FA310TX's with the DIGITAL Equipment tulip chip. I have the newer verison also, for $14.95 can't beat them.
3com 905 family works great. $$$
Your question asked for the easiest...
Intel EEpro10/100 are selected by default in all kernels. If you make no modifications this card will work.
Good Luck,

Ive got a KTI don't know the model number right now using the ne2k-pci module. I also have a 3com 3c905-tx. IT works fine but I have no other cards that do 100 mhz so it's orphaned for now. In my windows boxen I've got old Cabletron e2010's that talk to the KTI. The Laptop has a 3com pcmcia nic. I dunno but I MIGHT be willing to trade my 3com nic for a descent pci video card.
