is this a bug? I have kernel 2.6.1.

/usr/src/modules/fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0# ./make.sh
ATI module generator V 2.0
==========================
initializing...
Error:
XFree86 drm includes at /usr/src/linux-2.6.1/drivers/char/drm do not fit this driver.
This driver is designed to only work with X4.1.0 or higher.
You can match this by getting Linux kernel 2.4.8 or higher.

Is fglrx-4.3.0-3.9.0 known to work with the 2.6 kernels or only the 2.4?

I got the new ATI drivers to work fine with my Slackware-current and 2.6.6 kernel.

All I did was download the rpm file, ran rpm2tgz then installpkg whatever.rpm. I then had to cd to the directories where the make.sh and make_install.sh were at and ran each one. Afterwards I ran fglrxconfig to generate a file that I could use to edit my xorg.conf file.

No problems.

it is not that i am doing something wrong. I keep following other people's how to's but i keep getting errors for no reason.

The best " to me" tutorial for the ati driver is this one :

http://www.overclockix-forum.theaog.com/viewtopic.php?t=125

Once i was doing step by step what he did i got errors. Errors that i am missing kernel headers , then some /lib errors and others that i can not remember :)

I even downloded the driver , converted it to .deb then cd to the dir where it was and i made a ./make install and i got the error complaining that i need 2.4.8 kernel despice the fact that i have 2.6.1.

ON the other hand , i emailed ATI all the log errors and they never replied back :(

all i know is that it is not going to work on this machine
