I tried to create another user account using the useradd command, which seemed to go through ok - i let it use the default values for creating a new user -, but I can't get into this account without KDE crashing. It starts to log in, and then just stops, and after a while says that there has been an intercommuncation process error, and i should check that the program dcopserver is running. then, KDE crashes and i'm back to the login screen. I checked and the new user is included in the passwd file with the same values as my other working user.
I also noticed it hasn't created a home directory automatically for the new user, which according to the useradd man page is supposed to happen.

any ideas on what's going wrong?

I had several times the same problem. The solution was to delete all kde related hidden files in the home directory and all files (inclusive the hidden ones) in the /tmp directory

I have had that problem to. My solution to it was. get the latest version of qt. that goes with your version of KDE.

Good Luck,
