I have a Olympus digital 400 and when I open the digital picture manager in fedora it doesn't read the camera. I tried gettign ti to work manually and it still said "camera not found" Well it is deffinently plugged into the usb.
when i try the usb mount one it says /dev/sdb1 is not a valid block device
im trying to get it to work on a laptop its a acer 710TE so I can store pictures on it while I'm in europe.

Well, first thing you can do is check your log to see if the USB port is actually recognizing it. Check in /var/log/messages for something that is similar to:
Jan 22 17:21:23 localhost kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1, assigned device number 2
Jan 22 17:21:23 localhost kernel: usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x4b0/0x106) is not claimed by any active driver.
Jan 22 17:21:26 localhost /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup usb-storage for USB product 4b0/106/100
Jan 22 17:21:26 localhost kernel: Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
Jan 22 17:21:26 localhost kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage
Jan 22 17:21:26 localhost kernel: scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Jan 22 17:21:27 localhost kernel: Vendor: NIKON Model: NIKON DSC E775 Rev: 1.00
Jan 22 17:21:27 localhost kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Jan 22 17:21:27 localhost kernel: USB Mass Storage support registered.
NOTE: DO NOT CONNECT YOUR CAMERA WHEN IT IS ON. IT SHOULD BE OFF AND THEN TURN IT ON AFTER IT IS CONNECTED.
That last part is key -- took me awhile to figure out that was the only reason my camera wasn't supported.
Here's a good link on how to setup your digital camera in Linux.

That's becuase the file /etc/securetty (i think that's right) is set so that you can't login via terminals. (Security reasons.) Your best bet would be to uncomment the lines that let you log into specific terminals as root.

P.S. For future reference, don't post one question and then post another that should belong in a completely seperate topic.
Also...use Google. Took me all of two seconds to find the two links I just posted. If you search before you ask, you are probably going to learn a lot more.

the log seemed to pick it up just fine, but the digital camera monitor still isn't finding it.

Did you search Google?
Did you search JustLinux?
Did you see the post that is on the front page?

I honestly don't have a response, and normally I'd head out on the web to search for it. But, you'll find that you will most likely figure it out a lot quicker if you hit up Google. It's the best search engine in the world for a reason, ya know! :D
