Hi all,

I don't whether I am the only one having such a problem or I am just too new.

I am running Mandrake 7.2. The mandrake custome built rpm package have been giving problem. Sometimes standards rpm/programs refuse to recognize the package already in the system, simplly because the package has a mdk suffix to it. But if I try to install a standard package over he mdk one, confliction will be reported.

How do I work around this?

Well the obvious one is to upgrade to mdk packages. If you upgrade to an i386 you do loose the benefits of the mandrake optimizations. Also make sure if you decide to go with a i386, to get the RH6.2, RH7 will not work. If you are getting conflicts try -Uvh instead of -i. I haven't had a problem with upgrading most things.

You can also try using source rpm's (src.rpm).

Generally you build the rpm like:
rpm --rebuild foo.src.rpm

It should put the resulting rpm in /usr/src/RPM/build/i586 though I might have the path slightly wrong. It could also be i686 if recompiled your kernel for a PII or higher.
