backward-word in mc

how do i set up mc to use ctrl-left to do backward-word in rxvt, ctrl-left works fine in bash, but when i use the mc editor, it displays c for ctrl-left and simulates enter key when i press ctrl-right... mc doesnt seem to follow the inputrc file very well or something like that

it works fine in console, but i was wondering if there is a way to get it going in X
