Hi, I am having trouble getting mplayer to run .mov files. I have downloaded the 2 codec packs, essential and win32, and compiled with the codecs in whatever dir it said to put them in. when I try and play i get this message, after playing for a fraction of a second with sound it exits.$ mplayer /files/videos/games/hl2_fulldemo_e32004.mov

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: decode_video
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

One thing tho is that the first time I compiled and installed I didn't have the codecs, but then when I had downloaded the codecs I just compiled and installed overtop. Would this be causing problems??

Thanks

oh, by the way, mplayer plays any other file fine, ie. .avi .wmv .mpeg .mp3

Have you tried other .mov files?

It could just be that the file that you are playing is corrupted somehow. You know, cosmic rays interacting with the magnetic field of the earth and your harddrive causing spontaneous corruption of the occasional file on your drive.
It's a rare issue, but it does happen.

Have a BOFH type of day. ;)

(Please note, the cosmic ray thing was a joke. The file was probably just corrupted when you downloaded it, or it could be broken from before that.)

Does the same thing happen with Xine or another movie player?

yes, I have tried 2-3 other .mov files, and in xine I just get a green screen if i remember correctly when I try and play .mov files.
