ok bear with me, this is getting very annoying that this printer doesnt work and i desperately need it to work. here is what happened
i am running redhat 9 and trying to make a hp psc 1210 printer, scanner, copier work, but it is becomming very aggrivating. basically, i installed libusb, hpijs, ghostscript, hpoj, everything, but that was all a while ago, and it still doesnt work. i was trying to make it work following these directions: hpoj.sourceforge.net/hpoj-0.91/doc/setup-print.html , but the first step, using ptal-init setup, doesnt make a ptal device, instead it gives me this error:
*** The following devices are using an obsolete configuration
*** file format. Use "/usr/local/sbin/ptal-init setup"
*** to delete and re-probe them:
--> "mlc:usb:psc_1200_series"
and then it says no hpoj devices have been configured.
next, i try to finish the installation anyway, and i can use the CUPS localhost:631 thing and setup the printer under usb instead of ptal device, and naturally it doesnt work. so i try to install it using gnome's printer config but it doesnt have the printer, so i try the hpinkjet.sourceforge.com's recommended printer driver for the PSC 1210 which is the DJ3320. that doesnt work either. I often get the media tray empty error, and the CUPS test page never prints. i also tried dnloading the psc 1210 ppd file for cups, but that didnt do nething. some websites i looked over are:

i tried as best i could to do everything i understand on those pages, but nothing seemed to work. i tried adding the USB printer (instead of ptal like it said to do on the instructions), but that didnt work. i am completely clueless as to what to do.
any help, or anything would greatly be appreciated. also if someone might be able to post this on the sourceforge.net forum if it can't b solved here because my login doesn't seem to work.
if anyone needs any more dtails or nething to fix this, just let me know.

also, many times, when i try 2 print a test page or cancel a test page job in the CUPS thing (localhost:631), it gives me the client-error-not-possible error.
