Hello just a question about Linux and my internet/modem,

With my modem it is a "P&A Technology 56000bps External Fax Voice Modem" when i try to connect using the program provided in SLAX (http://slax.linux-live.org) (ive tried changing the types of modem to everything relevant [Modem is not USB]) it either doesnt find my modem or on one particular setting it claims to have "found it" but it just times out after i hit connect and when i hit query it also times out towards the end. Do i need to install new drivers? if so what ones would i be installing? or is this a horrible WinModem i am hearing about?

Cheers, Az

No, it will work with linux, it uses a rockwell chipset.
The easiest thing is to boot up into KDE, use KPP to configure it. You may need to change permissions if you are logged in as a user, but it sounds as if you are root.

External? Most external modems should work in Linux.

Yeah it is external i followed a few things i found around the place and now when queried the modem says hello but when i hit connect it just says "initializing" until it gets to the timeout point. Any clues?

If you use KPPP, the help section on it has a very good setup guide and troubleshooting section.
