i just got myself an ethernet card and modem/router so i can use any linux distro (sadly that hasnt been easy lol) well my browsing experirnce is so odd. sometimes its really fast then if i click a link e.g. 'posting this thread' the connection hangs for about 30 secs and sometimes it times out. my network knowledge is lacking at this time, can anybody suggest a fix?

hmmm maybe it needs to be set to always on rather than connect on demand (im prob wrong)

M/B you should check your ISP. post your results
from the command....ifconfig eth0

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0D:88:B4:11:23
inet addr:192.168.0.2 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:3124209 (2.9 MiB) TX bytes:688484 (672.3 KiB)
Interrupt:9 Base address:0x1400

these are the results plus i keep getting to reffered to register.com at random when i click a link - WTF

will this compromise security by posting the above info?

Security-wise the only info you might not want to post is the MAC (HWaddr) address. You're using an IP in one of the private, non-routable ranges, so that's not a security issue.

OK, ifconfig shows the card to up and running, with no transmit/receive errors, so that's a good thing.

Question- Does this happen only with a certain browser, or does it happen if you use any browser?

performance is best with opera but i still get some problems.
on the windows setup it times out or the pages take around 30 secs to connect or just timout.

on debian the timeout refers me to register.com, thats so weired. i tried lookin at the connection files but i dont wanna tinker incase i lose the connection.
