Mouse not coming up

I have a two buttoned mouse that wasn't configured for the 3 button emulation. I clicked the box to make it 3 button emulation, and it worked fine. Then I logged off the system, and it didn't respond when I tried to move it. I'm running Red Hat 9 Publisher's Edition. I bought a new mouse, because the other one is kind of old and it's secondhand. Is it possible the new mouse will fix all this? Thanks,

What type of mouse are you replacing it with? You haven't said anything about its connections..does it have a wheel?

If it's a PS/2 mouse try changing the mouse protocol in XF86Config.
