Is it really that complicated to use s video out?

I´m using a cheap laptop (PCCHips, transmeta 600mhz cpu,Graphic controller : SiS 315E 256bit 3D graphic engine, supports up to 143MHz 3D engine clock Graphic Memory : 16MB SDRAM Shared) and I need to put what I see on the screen on a tv, nothing else... near as I can tell from searching I´ve got to start messing with my xfree configuration, is that true?

have you tried just pluging it into the tv yet? sometimes it will automagically work

I've read the instructions on how to do it using Windows and they make it sound like it's a huge deal.
Turn of machine
Plug in S-Video
Boot
Change display settings (??)

With my laptop on the external monitor, I just plug that in and it's working. Maybe I'll try the S-Video before I take off tonight

I do think that you need to change the display to some silly low res like 600x480 or less(!) since a TVs resolution is very low...
