I am having some font issues. Pages are sometimes looking pretty bad in
Galeon. I once heard wind of the idea of copying fonts from windows to
linux to a certain directory so that X could use them. I have a Windows
partition on another computer here, that I can access. To which directory
would I move these fonts? And are there limitations to which fonts I can
use?

And one more question: When downloading new fonts from the net, would I
put them in this same directory?

Thank you.

I guess you want to install truetype fonts. The procedure depends on the version of XWindows you use.

If you use X3.x, you need an extra font server xfstt (I think).
If you use X4.x, you don't need an extra server but still need to create the proper directories and entry in XF86Config.

You should check these NHF: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/fonts/index.html .

Thanks to all of you for your help. That redhat article did the trick, gilded page. I tried the the first one posted initially, the NHF, but I guess since I am running RH7 and X 4.x the rules are a bit different, and Redhat's guide accounted for that.

Yay! I'm so happy.

From redhat's site:

TrueType Fonts (One of the few things Windows is good for)
