Ok, I just installed libranet, and I wanna get the new kernel up and running. Unfortunatly, I don't know/think they have a working package of it on their mirrors (correct me if I'm wrong, I've got tons of **** to do, one of them being expand my sources.list)
WOuld I just download the base package off of kernel.org and overwrite my 2.2.17 source, or what?

The package should be at the debian http site...just make sure you put it in your sources.list. However, I find this a ridiculously dangerous way to upgrade your kernel...few people get it right the first time, and the package will just blow away whatever you have and leave you with the new kernel. Source is the best way to go. When you download from kernel.org, it will give you a tarball roughly 20 megs in size. Untarring it will give you a directory called "linux". Go into that directory, open up the readme, follow the instructions, answer some TOUGH *** QUESTIONS, and when all is said and done, you should have a kernel image under your /linux/arch/<processortype>/boot directory (might be elsewhere...just poke around...should be called bzImage if you follow the readme). Tell LILO or GRUB where the image resides, give it a name, run LILO or GRUB to finalize the changes, and boot up. You'll have the choice of all your old options (chances are you'll be going back...nobody gets it right the first time :)), as well as the new test kernel. There's an NHF or two on the subject as well, but nobody can help you with the tough-*** questions...it's just a matter of doing a lot of help-file reading and trudging through it. I recommend the "make xconfig" option...much easier to follow. Good luck, and hope this helps.

Well, building the kernel isn't a problem, and getting it all set up, and all said and done, but I was just wondering if they had a kernel package of 2.4 I could point to, so it'd save me a few steps.
Well, doesn't matter right now, X isn't working, or more importantly GNOME and/or Enlightenment refuse to work, and end up killing the X server.
*sigh* all because windows refused to have some semblance of intellegence....
I need more sleep...

From what I know, there isn't a 2.4 kernel package that you can just lay over your old one...you're gonna have to configure the huge thing.
And for some reason, EVERYONE has problems with Debian X :)

Unruly, I believe that's been posted on the libranet users mailing list. Send me an email and I'll email you how to do it. It's at home.
