Ive been looking for a more stable more Linux distro for my hp laptop, Gentoo looks like a nice OS so I was looking at the installation page http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=2
But I didnt actually eyeball where the install code is at.....
to install freebsd you type is sysinstall at the command.
can someone give me a little help? I was using SUSE but im not at all crazy about the distro, I would rather use the rpm king Mandrake...with all my hardware issues.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "install code." Care to elaborate?

The Gentoo install-disk lets you do the greatest part of the install yourself, so there's no app that gives you options one by one that you can choose but you call the commands yourself. Just issue the commands/steps from the handbook one by one, and you'll have a working system.
I hope this answers your question.
