Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Attempt to resume from suspend hangs... how to bypass?

I attempted to suspend-to-disk (using the built-in (ACPI?) method, not swsuspend) my laptop yesterday. (eMachines 5312, Athlon XP-M proc, running Mandrake 10 Community) It grumbled a bit about the ACPI implementation (didn't see the complete error message) but acted like it was working.
However, when I reboot the machine it hangs after reading the pagefile from disk. I think my BIOS has a squirrely ACPI implementation that's causing problems, but that's another issue. Right now I just want to boot :eek:.
Is there any parameter I can pass to lilo that says "don't try to resume from the image, just boot normally?" ... or do I have to mess with Knoppix?

acpi=off or pci=noacpi

Doesn't work. It appears that the resume function isn't dependent on ACPI support being turned on--the only "ACPI-required" step is the suspend.

To elaborate a bit on HC's answer...
Those two options would be added to the kernel boot parameter in LILO or Grub when you start the machine up. I believe that MDK is still using LILO.
Is this a hard drive install of Knoppix? If so, I would highly suggest upgrading to the 2.6 kernel series has it has a lot of support for laptops, including many power saving features (and better ACPI)

Yeah, that's what I'm doing... getting a lilo prompt and typing "linux acpi=off" doesn't prevent the system from trying to reload its suspended image and hanging.

I've not actually done anything with Knoppix ... just commenting that, being on dialup, I don't want to have to download it in order to fix my system (which, if I could get a prompt, would probably be as simple as taking the "resume" bit out of lilo.conf and reloading lilo)

Is APM also enabled? This may be causing a conflict with ACPI. Maybe try adding APM=off to the boot arguments.

Hah!
linux resume=off worked. :)
Thanks for the advice, guys.

Nuts, and I had a big long reply all typed. At least it gave me something to do on my long boring shift:)

Hah!
I had a job like that last summer. During downtime I wrote the prototype code for what would become my physics senior project.
In QBasic.
On a 150MHz machine that was supposed to be the controller for an electron microscope, but wasn't because the lab director was too lazy to get off his *** and mail it back for repair.
