Ok. I've got WINE running on my RH 9.0 system. I've installed and used a few things. Notepad works, I got ws_ftp LE to work, and! a version of the windows-based version of AIM. Well. I've run into a problem. Some programs do not work. I tried to install the most recent version of AIM for windows, and it said that it will not run on Windows 95. As far as I can tell, I have my WINE set to be xp. I also, was trying to get Adobe Photoshop 6.0 to work.. I installed it and everything, the files are where they should be... but.. When I go to load, everything loads up, but it says that it can't load because of an error in which is unrecoverable... Which, I think is the system saying that it's win95. I do not believe AP6.0 works with 95 and so therefore it would not be able to work.. The install for AP6.0 wouldn't say either, because I made the install myself, a couple years ago and just had it place the files in the right spot and etc...
As far as I can tell, i have it set to use xp... but here's a copy of my WINE config.
[Version]
; Windows version to imitate (win95,win98,winme,nt351,nt40,win2k,winxp,win2k3,w in20,win30,win31)
"Windows" = "winxp"
; DOS version to imitate
"DOS" = "6.22"
Thanks in advance for any help/insight you can give me on this subject.. I also hope it's the right spot for this type of problem..

As far as AIM goes, why not just use Gaim?
Have you checked www.frankscorner.org - they have very good instructions on installing with Wine.

Using native programs is *really* recommended, so here's a list of alternatives for the few programs you posted. You should give them a try, as it's always better to use the native programs (more stable etc, and many other reasons which will probably bore you to death).
Notepad: for a simple, lightweight editor, gEdit is excellent.
WS_FTP: gftp is very easy to use, and works very well imho.
aim: as the previous poster suggested, gaim is very good.
Now, for your actualy problem: you should install a program called 'winesetup' (I think, can anyone back this up? It's been a while since I last used wine). It's a graphical, very straightforward program which will help you configure wine correctly. It's possible it's already installed, try starting it by typing 'wineconfig' in the 'Run' box or the terminal.

I'm not sure xp is supported. Although "win98" seems to be best supported by WINE in my experience.

For XP I think you need to select NT... I seem to vaguely recall something like this, but don't take my word for it.
The wine configuration program will probably mention this I presume.

If your system meets the minimum requirements you may consider running something like VMWare, much more expensive but you will be able to run whatever windows programs you want.
Of course you will have to buy a Windows XP license and you may not be able to share files...on the other hand maybe not such a good idea. :confused:

I was just going to post that as a much better solution after just reading an article that coincidently mentioned Code Weavers. I'm sure it is a hell of a lot faster than VMware.

If you look above the bit of the config file you posted, it shows that different file systems are used on each drive. They're all set to win95 by default, I'm not sure if it relates to your problem but you might want to try.
Apart from that I've found about half an hour of playing around with the dlloverrides gets every app I've wanted use to work fine.
