hello!
i remember uninstalling perl through the remove package option in my gnome desktop.
then i went on uninstalling some other stuff which didnt sound needed, then suddenly, i cant run "home" anymore. i get "Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying "/home/me"".
and also the icons in my desktop has changed. mandrake control center has also disappeared, incuding the install and remove packages menu.
what did i do? what can i do to reinstall the missing parts?
thanks!
Hi,
Your problems appeared because you uninstalled perl.
A lot of stuff(including mandrake control center, the
package manager) is written in Perl.
As a solution, login as root in shell and install the packages manually from the cd's.
Unfortunately you can't use the urpmi command, because
it is also written in perl.

Hello!
Please someone tell me how to bring back my previous settings.
I tried rpm -ivh perl*.rpm in CD1, but i still dont see mandrake control center, including the shortcuts in my desktops.
Thank you!
Try to manually add a shortcut on your desktop.
The script for Mandrake Control Center is: /usr/sbin/drakconf.

You might need to restart X/Gnome.

Hi!
I tried /usr/bin/drakconf, but it doesnt seem to exist.
How is it installed?
Thanks!
First, the script is located in /usr/sbin, not /usr/bin.
Also, check if you have the following package installed:
drakconf-9.1-13.1mdk (the version might be different).

BTW... As per our JL Community Help Posting Guidelines sticky thread at the top of each of the forums, next time include a subject that relates to the actual problem.
"Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying "/home/me""
That would have been a lot better than 'mdk 9.0 problems' as members that might have had the same problem as you would immediately see this thread by the subject in the forum listing and could possibly post a solution.
Thanks for understanding.
