Ahh! OK, I've gotten to become really familiar with lynx,
and I don't wanna! Damn mouse won't work, therefor, XFree follows it's example.
Can someone please help me!?
heh, I look pretty "leet" typing into the console all "hacker like" :D
BUT IT SUCKS!
Really, this is horribly annoying.
I just finished a gentoo stage1 install with all available packages, It's a Cordless MouseMan Optical mouse if that helps, using the standard gentoo kernel.
Whoever helps me will get a thankyou postcard in the mail! :D
EDIT: Whoever gets it working first that is. I can't go sending around dozens of postcards! ;)

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"(or /dev/psaux)
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
try editing your XF86config to look like this.

try editing your XF86config to look like this.
"cannot open device /dev/input/mice
no such file or directory.
Fatal server error:
failed to initialize core devices."
The same goes for /dev/psaux. Could it be that the mouse is hooked up w/ USB that's causing the error?

Is it a USB mouse?
You didn't really specify what it was-- that would really help, you know ;)

it would appear that you screwed up with your kernel config.
did you add hid support in your kernel?
try from CLI
cat /dev/psaux
OR
cat /dev/input/mice
OR
cat /dev/input/mouse0
OR
cat /dev/usb
move your mouse around, if random stuff gets printed across the screen then thats the correct device.
ctrl+c will close each one. if one of them does work replace the /dev/input/mice in your XF86config with the one that worked.

err, none of those worked.
I didn't customize the kernel too much except for support for my network card and CPU along with some other random stuff. I'll see if recompiling it with what you said works.

nope, I remade it with every concievable support for anything that has to do with USB and it still won't run. :(
any more ideas?

Well, do you have hotplug running at all?
Does it show up in /proc/bus/usb/devices?
What is the output of dmesg |grep usb?

meh, in a fit of rage, I reinstalled Slackware 9.1,
I'll try it again next weekend. I can't afford to be PC-less during the weekdays. So for now I'll put this on hold. But most likely I'll revive this thread on friday evening.

Are you running lynx while booted to X/KDE/Gnome etc. or in text mode (runlevel 3)?
