I have asked about his before... a year ago or so. I have an L7SOM mobo with an onboard SiS740 AGP video card. While configuring kernel 2.6.6 for compilation, I noticed that there was an option for 'Support for SiS chipsets (300, 315...etc)' and also 'acceleration for sis chipsets'. Because I have been wanting my video card to actually have even a little acceleration, I was pretty giddy when I saw this, so I obviously checked it. While compiling, I noticed that, for the sis module, it was named 'fbsis'. So, I rebooted my machine into my somewhat troublesome new kernel (my old one, 2.4.22, was running too slow to do anything with), I started X/KDE and tested my video card on an openGL screensaver. There was no screensaver because my video card isn't accelerated. I then remembered that the module was compiled as 'fbsis' instead of the generic sis chipset, which is just 'sis'. I went into the X config file and changed the driver to 'fbsis'... this did not help at all. I checked my X log file, and it states that there is no DRI support for my card either.
soooooo, my question is... and I know this gets asked a lot... but, is there a way to get the SiS 740 onboard AGP video card to work with openGL in Linux? It worked pretty good running under Window$(which corrupted my 80gb HDD... Microsoft will _NEVER_ come near my computer again). I was able to play RTCW:Enemy Territory just fine (although gfx were turned to min). This would most likely be the only thing (other than maybe WINE) that I don't have working properly... _IF_ I had the courage to install windows again, having my video card working with acceleration would be the only reason for doing so.
I have read the numerous comments that "SiS ..., ..., 740/315, etc. chipsets are NOT supported by DRI or OpenGL", so, I have done a slight amount of reading... and, instead of flaming me for asking this question, ignore it instead if you think I am a retard (which I am)
