I bought some new CD-R disks to burn, but I can't get them to work.
Maxwell
CD-R
80 min/700mb
compact disc recordable
K3b creates the image, but when it gets to 50%, where it begins the actual burn, it stops and says:
Found media: CD-ROM
Please insert an empty medium
(CD-R(W)) into drive
YAMAHA CDRW4261 (/dev/sr0)
I tried to burn with various versions of K3b, and also from within root.
Did I buy the wrong disks?

some media is not supported by some drives. try those in a different burner, if they dont work take them back.

I will try another burner when I obtain access to one, but I have used this brand of CD-R with this burner before. I noticed two diffences though with the disks:
1) past disks say they support up to 40x, whereas these new ones go up to 48x.
2) past disks were silver colored, these new ones are purple, blue, and red.
Would this make a difference?
Are these preferences set correctly?
Burning device: YAMAHA CRW4261
Speed: 2x (the front of my burner says 4x2x6)
Writing mode: auto
Options:
[ ] Simulate
[ ] On the fly
[ ] Only create image
[x] Remove image
Temp directory:

unfortunately, it might be one of those situations where the new media disks cannot accurately read an old burner which you described.
[I had that problem with new cd-rw disks]

When your drive was new there were no 80 min cdr's around because of the red-book compatibility issue. Were you able to burn the 40x okay?

40x cds burned fine.
I discovered the problem is much worse. For some reason I can't even mount the drive. I've haven't used it for several months so I am not sure why the cdrom isn't working at all. I will start a new thread for that.
