Need to get LILO back after W98 blow up

I had Mandrake and Windows 98 dual booting. I had to blow out W 98 but Mandrake is on another drive. How can I get I think it is LILO back? And is LILO better then GRUB? When I boot now, I just have W 2000 on there. I used to get a choice of linux and W 98.

I have the Mandrake CD's but I can't (per the wife) screw up Windows again.

boot into your mandrake partition (use the install cds as recue cds and chroot into the mandrake partition)

then, for lilo, just type lilo as root.

grubs always BETTER!!! lilo is known to break but not lilo. grub uses a definite configfile but not lilo. this means that you will need to run lkilo as root everytime you change a setting but you do not do that in grub -- you just edit menu.lst in grub folder(meaning you can edit it without chrooting into the system and even do it in windows...[or live-cd])

So mandrake is on d. Boot from the CD and I will get a choice to go to the d drive? So I get a cmd line and type "chroot d" then type "lilo" and this will give me the dual boot format?

You shouldnt need to chroot into anything, boot from your first mandrake cd and the type rescue, instead of hitting enter to begin the install, you should then be given the option to reinstall your boot loader.

Searching the JL forums for 'reinstall lilo' (http://justlinux.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=948278&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) also would have found you the solution. :)
