i got a MSI GeForce FX5600 256MB
it has three interfaces:
1x VGA
1x round lil' one (guess its tv-out)
1x DVI (for this one i have a DVI-to-VGA converter somewhere)

so what i want to know is, does this card support dual monitoring?
i mean, if i can plug into the dvi interface with this converter another monitor?

anyone knows this video card?

and btw. what do i need for that?

ill search myself, just tell me what to look for

thanks :D

Your card should have come with a short Y-cable that plugs into that port -- one connector on the other end has 4 pins for S-video, and the other is just a normal RCA connector that you can plug into any RCA cable (use the yellow connector; the red and white ones are for audio).

Or at least, that's how my MSI GF4 Ti4200 works.

so what i want to know is, does this card support dual monitoring? AFAIR, all the GF4 Ti series cards did support dual-head, yes. I would assume that the FX 5600 also does.

But don't take my word for it -- see what MSI says: :D

Dual, 400MHz RAMDACs for display resolutions up to and including 2048x1536@85Hz 2 RAMDACs means it'll support 2 independent displays.

and btw. what do i need for that? Either a TV, or a second monitor, plus an extra bit of RCA cable if you go the TV route.

Beyond that, just a bit of setup in terms of the driver -- see nVidia's README file for how to do it a couple of different ways (you are using their driver, right? I don't know if the standard driver supports dual-head, but I would guess it does not...).

I've also posted by dual monitor X config for the FX5600 a few times here. Just search the JL forums for '5600 viewsonic' under my username.

Just in case, here is one of them (http://justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=124146&highlight=5600+viewsonic).

Of course searching the JL forums first for '5600 dual monitor' would likely have found plenty of examples you could use.
