I'm looking to set up a HTPC. I want to be able to, at a minimum:

Watch d/l'ed videos or DVDs
Listen to my mp3s
Use emulators with my PS2 USB connector

I would like to be able to control the mp3 and video functions with a wireless remote. I have looked at MythTV and I like it a lot, the weather feature and gallery are cool features, but I don't need or want the TV recording feature. Also, the mp3 playback on it doesn't have much of a search feature, and I would like something like xmms has.

Also, I just bought one of those Lola's remotes from X10 and would like to use it to control this rig if I can, so far I haven't came up with much documentation wise for doing this.

Should I just go for MythTV and try to delete the backend stuff or is there a way to set up a generic GUI for mplayer and the emulators and such, and does anyone have any leads on the X10 remote?

This (http://www.sllug.org/how-to/linux-htpc/introduction.html)
is the best document I've seen on setting up HTPC.
And as you can see here (http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=3)
you can use just the modules for mythtv that you need.
And for your other questions, you may to search through these (http://mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/)
Good luck and maybe write a howto, looking through all these threads (http://www.justlinux.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=947114&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending&perpage=25&pagenumber=1) I didn't see any Howto entries. We could really use a Howto, (hint, hint):)
