want to buy an older pc for the wife and kiddo to use. the main thing i want to look for is if the machine has room to add at least a wireless nic card. im looking at some of these "small form factor" pc's, but im doubting if they even have one open pci slot

i need it small because its going in/on a rolltop desk in the living room and i want to install a wireless nic so i dont have to run cable.

im looking at the dell optiplex or dimension 4600c....but these "tiny" pcs - will they have have a open pci slot ?

here is a link

"half height pci slot" ????

not sure what distro ill load, but probably run wine so i can run some kids games.

to add - i tried calling Dell for help...ill spare everyone the details, but calling them for questions is ...out of the question.

Perhaps moving this to /dev/random will get you a few responses. :)

if you look inside, you can see part of an open pci slot, and there are 2 open plates in the back of the case. I would assume there is at least one open slot.

[EDIT]

It has one. Check this out:

How about using a USB wireless adaptor? I picked up a Belkin for $40, and it works great in Win98SE (haven't tried it on any of the RH boxes just yet).
