More from http://freshmeat.net that may be useful to some of our JL members

The first is similiar to SuSE's 'SCPM - System Configuration Profile Management'.

ProfileManager

ProfileManager is a small utility for Linux to switch between different profiles. It can mount different mount points, configure a different SMTP server, add special routes and gateways, etc. The goal is to create a highly expandable tool to deal with many different settings. Users can add their own plugins via a very simple interface.

Thomer's Music Vault

Thomer's Music Vault is a streaming music server and jukebox for Linux that presents a pretty interface to a CD music collection. It takes care of generating playlists and encoding/decoding music (in FLAC, MP3, or Ogg Vorbis formats) in accordance with the user's settings and the available bandwidth and CPU power. It can serve as an in-house (or remote) CD player replacement.

When I get my laptop (2 months away) I will install the profiles program because I am going to be traversing about 10 networks.

i also hear good things about gnump3d, for streaming music.

i myself use mpd, and the web interface, to play music from my main PC with the big speakers, instead of streaming it from there over wireless to my crappy laptop speakers.
