first go herelinux printing (http://www.linuxprinting.org/) and see if it's possible for your printer to work in linux at all. I don't know any furtherlinux printing (http://www.linuxprinting.org/)

Just about every distro has some kind of tool for this. Which one are you using? In Red Hat, i think it's just called print tool, in Mandrake, it should be covered somewhere in drakconf, in SuSE, just use YaST. Those are the only ones I've used so far. Hope it helps.

I use CUPS. It works well and its easy to install-- and if you print in gimp the quality is REALLY good. :)

In addition to apsfilter and magicfilter, I like using Webmin (www.webmin.com) for setting up printers. It's especially useful for setting up networked printers.
