Could someone tell me the pros of choosing Libranet over Debian? I understand that Libranet is Debian based but I don't know much else about it apart from the fact that its supposed to be a Canadian distro.

Having had a look at their site, seems that its desktop environment is well setup but I'm just going to be using this other box as a server.

Libranet is really aimed at the desktop Linux, not so much the server market. If you just want a server, you'd probably do best to just install Debian.

i don't really understand what they have so desktop-based.. i mean, that so-called 'libranet desktop' is simply icewm...
/me doesn't get it

The install is easier and adminmenu simplifies some difficult tasks. Those are two definite difference I can tell you without having run Debian on my PC. Another advantage to LibraNet as opposed to say the install of Debian 2.2r5 is that LibraNet uses a 2.4 kernel (2.4.3 to be exact) and XFree86 4.0.3 opposed to, I think, 3.3.6 in Debian 2.2r5. LibraNet is overall leaner than Debian. If you are primarily just a Desktop user Debian and LibraNet will serve you well, if you want server capabilities it would be best to go Debian, I think ;)

its supposed to be easier to install and get going (and probably is, nothing can be harder than installing debian for the 1st time  )

It's designed to give you the power of debian/apt w/o all the hassle

What's so hard about using up/down/space/enter with a text install as opposed to a pretty gui install where you use a mouse?

agreed.

personally i haven't tried libranet, but i've failed twice to install debian (well, to get X to work)
from what others have said, Libranet is much easier to install/use
