I don't know what the terminology is for this.. I'm sure there's a term for it:

I REALLY like that sidebar with the weather, system stats, etc. What is it? Where can I find others like it?

In fact....is there a really good Linux software site I can check out? Is freshmeat.net pretty much the standard?

Is gdesklets only for Gnome? I installed gdesklets via apt-get on KDE 3.2.2 (MEPIS distro), then ran it.. nothing happened.

you have to add gdesklet displays for anything to happen.

just fyi, there's a program called gkrellm that prolly does everything else you want, and doesnt take as much resources..

but damn, gdesklets are so pretty ;)

Are there any good resources for pre-made gdesklets? I googled but all i can seem to find are places to downlaod the gdesklets binaries/sources. I know for kde there is www.kdelook.org, is there anything similar for gnome?

Blech, I HATE SuperKaramba. For me, it's so buggy and creates all kinds of error messages. gdesklets rules. :)

Magically, all I had to do was run gdesklets on some displays.. and even if I reboot/logout, and come back, gdesklets starts automatically. How does it do that? It's not in my ~/.kde/Autostart dir... and I don't have .xinitrc or .xsession files.
