When I installed Gentoo, I made sure to remove anything having to do with APM. However, when I log into X, and let my computer sit for awhile, my computer monitor still shuts off after some time. I know it shouldn't be doing this because I don't have a firewall installed and I'm running Fluxbox, so I'm guessing it's something to do with X.
Is there a setting that will shut this off? I don't want my screen to blank anymore. It gets annoying.
Thanks

Interesting. I run Gentoo also, but I use KDE. But, rather than my monitor going into power saving mode, my screen saver comes on. However, I used to run fluxbox, and I don't recall ever having what you have described happen...although I ran this on Debian and FreeBSD.
I noticed you are running the most recent kernel. I am wondering if it is possible that they (the kernel developers) have included something in the "power management" section that will do this with your monitor? That would suprise me, but I know there are several fairly recent additions to the kernel that sort of fall into this category...not directly...but similar. Be curious to see what you hear on this one.

I think it will go to screensaver or blank or _something_ by default to keep your screen from getting burned in. The only thing I've been able to find is "xset s noblank" which changes over to a (kinda cool) X screensaver. At least the monitor doesn't blank anymore...
Play with xset and you may find other stuff that I missed.

Hmmm. Wonder why it has never done it for me.

You can also try the 'DPMS' suggestions in 'this thread' (http://justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=126909&highlight=option+dpms).
