i recently installed this pci scsi raid controller
icp scsi raid controller (http://www.icpvortex.com/english/product/pci/rd/6118rd_e.htm)
i also installed two ibm lvd/se [dnes 318350] 68pin 7200rpm hds
neither worked so i try to get one to work by its self. when the controllers onboard bios boots it prints this.
Detected Damaged Primary Configuration Data On SCSI-A ID:1 lun:0
Detected Damaged Secondary Configuration Data On SCSI-A ID:1 lun:0
No hosts found!!!
~or~
Setting Lun0 ID 1 as Host:1 then errors on reboot, not to mention the drive only goes at 654KBps
are my drives bad?

Have you had a look through the options in the scsi raid controller bios to see if any need to be modified? Is it possible to format the HD's using the scsi bios?

i tried formating then it says that there are 223 errors on one drive and 180 on the other, but once initialized they fail primary and secondary just like before, when i try to do a surface scan with the scsi bios software, it fails about half way through, then instead of shoing up as drive 0 and drive 1 they show up and drive 1 then fail to creat an accessable lun.
i did get one to pass my formating it in linux to reiserFS it had no errors, but as soon as the other drive is plugged in they both fail, i have a feeling these drives may be dead.
the drives are supposed to go at 80MBps and as single drives they only run 9.8MBps is that right?

Could well be.
Did someone give them to you? Can you ask if they were working before?

no i traded my motherboard for them, actually found em here in the trading forum
http://justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=126215
i emailed em and asked if they were in perfect working order and his reply was YES. but as i have emailed him again asking why he said they work when they dont, and he has not replied.
im thinking about getting a new 18.2 10k 80MBps scsi drive but i want to know if this is a controller problem or a drive problem first.

Let's hope he does reply before you go out and buy new drives. Perhaps ask how he had them installed and configured to see if you have done the same.

Would he give you a refund if you agreed to ship them back?
One Channel Wide/Ultra2 SCSI Disk Array Controllerwith Multiprocessor RISC Technology
RISC Technology? Sure it works on i#86?
Tried the manufacturers support site?

as he has stoped all comunications with me i would have to say he wont, and im not going to break my head trying to get him to.
well it works perfect with an external data tower with several drives in it. but thats a different type scsi bus anyways. same controller card though.

Anyway you can test these HD's with another scsi controller?
Did you try the manufacturers website for troubleshooting ideas?

i have been told by someone that he can test them i think ill let him try,
the manufacture site has tools but they dont detect the drives, i cant rma them back cause they want a reciept from the store they were purchased in, and i dont have one.
