p120/32mb ram/netgear fa311

greets. i'm getting frustrated with this redhat7.1 install i have on my box. i am not doing well with just a command line! =( so, i have a teeny bit of exp. in linux...which distro should i install? i would like gui, but with only 32mb ram, this things creeps! maybe i'm not hopeless.

Hi there:

I had great success with Mandrake version 6.1 on an older machine like yours. See if you can still find the older ISO images from the Mandrake site, or from an outlet - online or otherwise.

Debian or Slackware would run pretty well on that with something like blackbox or fvwm. No Gnome or KDE though!

The same with other distros as well. Don t comfuse less disk space with less cpu time and less ram usage.

Linux is a kernel linus made :) The rest is on top.

So, whatever you use it will depend only from the kernel version and the programs you choose to install (e.g. gnome/kde may not fit).
