-=Greetings fair citizens! I am having trouble with Linux Mandrake (Or Mandrake Linux watever) and my sound.
The problem is, when i listen to music, or hear any sound in that matter-- It sounds all skippy like when a cd skips, but not quite as bad, you always hear some music, but it sounds like if there is a bad connection (or loose) between the speakers or Computer.
My box has this for a soundcard.

Vendor: Intel Corporation

Model: 82801AA AC'97 Audio

Kernel Module: snd-card-intel8x0

Bus Type: PCI

It is one of thoes HP packagae deals, a HP 7940 to be more specific.

Now, i dont have this problem ALL the time. Someimtes (just somtimes) when i start XMMS it sounds all bad (as i described above) but then when i restart XMMS, it is fine. But usually it doesnt get better.

The very first time i installed Mandrake, with juse KDE and the Configuration tools, it was fine. I isntalled 3 more times with every package i wanted and it has gone bad. I had the Gonme (sp?) dektop enviroment insalled, games, a lot of the internet and network stuff, and the office tools like word processors. I found that The sound was ALWAYS bad when i had all these installed (not running ofcourse). On the 5th install of Mandrake, i installed just KDE, the internet tools, the word processors, the configuration tools, and i think thats it. This time, when first booting into Linux (the sound it makes right before it shows the dektop) the sound was fine. I then went into the desktop configuration wizzard and choose the KDE classic dektop, i dont know what this did but it screwed it up. The sound was messed up again...

This problem is really pissing me off, and im really disapointed :( If anyone can help me with this problem, it would be greatly appriciated. I hope i gave enough infotmation, if not please let me know what else would help and ill provide. ty.=-

Actually, I've had some similar problems as to what you described. However, I'm not sure how to fix it. (My sound works fine, now, but...there are still problems every now and then.)

You may want to try changing XMMS normal audio drivers over to aRts, rather than whatever it is set at now. That helped me, anyway.
