MPlayer is great. get it at http://www.mplayerhq.hu

The KDE Media player (noatun) is also OK. It comes with KDE.

noatun plays .mp3's, .mpg's, maybe .wav's (never tried it) but not .avi's

From http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/gcc-2.96-3.0.html:

Question: Ok. Understood. But I want to give it a try... how to compile with gcc 2.96?

Answer: Really? Are you sure? Ok. You know... here is it: ./configure --disable-gcc-checking

Also take a look at that page...it appears to have some imporaint points.

Xine is the best video player you can get, he plays everthing, but if you can't downloaded from the internet, just post here some place where i can send the files for you including the dependencies of xine!
Hasta!! :)
