Hello all,
I recently got an LDAP database working for the Linux side of my lab. Users, automounts, and groups. Still some bugs to work out, but I'd say 95% reliable.

So now I'd like to complete the circle and move my Samba 2x setup to Samba 3 and start using the LDAP database. I had some success on the test network getting my own account working, but now it's time to port all 30 of my users.

I think the order is: upgrade Samba 2x to Samba 3. Make sure that works. Then change from smbpasswd to ldap backend.

Does that sound right? Anyone have any experiences to share on this? I have a ton of pdf and webpages marked and hopefully won't have too much trouble :fingerscrossed:

Thanks in advance,
ac

Sorry as I have no experience with upgrading Samba from 2-3 and using LDAP. However the order does 'sound right' to me.

well, an update of sorts:

Shut down Samba 2, uninstalled, installed Samba 3, renamed smb.conf and lmhosts files from my backups (the uninstall added .rpmsave). Started the server and it worked flawless.

Gave me some errors about unrecognized options, but its working, so I'll debug them later. Took about ten minutes.

Now the really hard part -- integrating LDAP . . .

Well done so far. Let us know how you do with LDAP.

'LDAP' on my very, very long project/learning list. :(

Of course if I quit JL, I would have all the time in the world to accomplish everything I have on that list. ;)
