ok, this ones great. ive been trying to recompile my kernel for about a week and a half, and ive finally gotten past mucking around, and bzImage was actually successful. where the hell did it go !? i cant find it with find or locate, kind of a crappy way to end the day. thanks guys

/arch/i386/boot of your kernel source directory. That's assuming you're compiling for the i386, but if not the other architectures are there as well.

thats just it, its not there ! ive got 3 different tutorials telling me that it should be there, but ls -a doesnt seem to agree with them. find and locate arent being of much assistance either :( ah crap...

I'm guessing maybe it isn't there. Did you remember all the steps: make dep, make clean, make bzImage, make modules, make modules_install?

After all the commands mentioned above, did you do a make install? If so, then you don't need to copy bzImage anywhere, vmlinuz would already have been put in /boot or / or whereever your kernel was before.
