I just upgraded to kde3.2. My environment is SuSE 9.0. For some reason the fonts on my deskop now have a shadow and look embossed. I have opened the KDE control center and looked at the desktop fonts under appearance&themes/fonts. These appear to be normal - San Serif 10.

check your theme instead of the font style i believe that is a feature some where under the themes.

you know, its strange that in kde3.2 I no longer see a separate 'theme' option. There are separate options for icons, window decorations, fonts etc. I remember in kde3.1 there was a separate option for themes where a new theme could be installed - so gehidore how do I change the theme now??

**i think**
under appearence and themes > style > style
OR

Just follow me, hit the star on the botton left corner, then go to system, then to configuration, there hit KDE, then there you should have all the posibilities to change on KDE. The one you are interested in is LookNfeel. there you can change, background, screen saver, windows decorations and so on. The theme you are probably talking about is the windows decoration, so go ahead and play with it. you can make your own custom theme with the stuff available.
so try that too, further down in that thread it says that kde does NOT have a menu to add themes but you can change the ones allready there.

I finally found the KDE Control Center panel which has the option to fix font style on the desktop
KDE Control Center --> Appearance & Themes --> Background --> Advanced Options --> Background Icon Text
'Enable Shadow' box was checked in this panel which was distorting the text under the icons.
Whew ! I will probably not remember this a few months form now - so here it is for me and everyone else in the future
