Intenet with Mandrake 7.1

If I go out and buy an external modem for Mandrake and set it up and stuff, will the internet actually be any better/faster than win98 running on the same machine? I dont mean processing, I mean downloading, etc.

Yes. I assume you have a Winmodem, and that's why you're buying an external modem.

Winmodems are extremely slow, not only in terms of network performance, but also because they slow down your CPU as well, making all the other applications on your system sluggish.
