MunterMan 04-22-2004, 07:47 PM When creating a new image the fill type can be set to transparent. Cut your selection and paste it to the new image, then merge the layers. gehidore 04-22-2004, 07:55 PM also under the erase tool if you double click you can change it to erase to transparent, but as i cannot run gimp at the moment i cant tell you what setting exactly. MacTown06 04-22-2004, 10:45 PM is there any way to change the fill tool to a transparent fill gehidore 04-22-2004, 10:59 PM short answer no, but you may be able to get transparent as a "paint" if you use the eyedroper tool. JohnT 04-22-2004, 11:04 PM What version of the Gimp are you using? MacTown06 04-23-2004, 08:47 AM im using version 1.2 No one has really told me what i wanted yet, so i still need help. you guys helped though, thanks! mdwatts 04-23-2004, 09:45 AM Have you been using the documentation etc. included with the Gimp package or the docs/tutorials on their website? http://www.gimp.org/docs/ http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/ What you are asking is likely covered in their docs. A very simple way of doing it if your working with one color is to use the "fuzzy select" (the wand") select the color you want transparent, then from the right-click menu choose>Edit>Clear. This will only work on solid colors, not gradients or the like. When doing gradients, a combination of the fuzzy-select and eraser wil do. teeitup 04-23-2004, 01:39 PM In version 1.2 there is a filter for this purpose. Open an image Right click and select Filters -> Web -> Webify Check the "create new image" box and "make transparent" box. Experiment with the "Threshold" slider till you get the results you want. Good Luck, P.S. This filter is missing the in the 2.0 pre release (1.3) version. So far I haven't been able to use the old filter with the new version.
