Disable Message Pane in Thunderbird

I would like to permanently disable the message pane in Thunderbird.

I can't seem to find a setting in the GUI or in the scripts and Google hasn't helped either.

You mean the start-up lower-pane? Its in preferences>mail and newsgroup settings..

There is no "Preferences" or "Mail and Newsgroup Settings" just "Account Settings" and "Options".

There is probably a way to do it through the scripts.

I'll look some more after work.
