Sorry mate... I have no idea...

Since it's a fresh install, maybe you can try reinstalling?

Kinda hard to tell from what you posted.

As suggested, reinstall or try booting into single mode and check your log/messages etc.

ok reinstalled...twice...finally able to get in...but for some reason it is detecting my sound card as something else...odd...i am going to fdisk everything and start it up without a dual boot...also for some reason it didnt detect my NIC with is said to be tested with linux...it never prompts me to configure a network...

also it detected my sound card as an ensoniq something wen i have asound blaster 16 PCI...this i thought is really odd...anyone had this prob?

Don't know about the NIC(make sure there are no IRQ or I/O conflicts). Many SB use some version of a ensoniq chip. Not so odd after all.

on the NIC, if you happen to reinstall, make sure to look for the screen to set up the network (IP, local domain, net mask, etc.) and select the proper configuration for your net work (like selecting the DHCP option at the top, or putting in the right information)

If that screen doesn't show I can't help you, man ;)

How about using expert mode install? I've never used Mandrake, but my distros expert mode allows configuration of everything during the install.

Mandrake has lots of online documentation on installing, cablemodems, dhcp etc.

Try suse, it'll prolly figure out what you got.

Make sure you disable plug and play OS in the BIOS option.

For the NIC, if you didn’t chose to install networking components, then it won’t prompt for configuration screen. And yeah choosing expert mode would solve the problem as well…

For sound card, it should be supported. I have two boxes that had that card. Or at least it should work with SB16 support.
