Would anyone here be interested in starting a thread dedicated to linux on laptops?

I have to office laptops that I am trying to get linux on. One is a Toshiba Satellite which is a no go. I've tried a few distros but can't get the video to work properly.

The other is a Compaq Armada and while trying to install Red Hat 6.2 I've discovered the true meaning of plug 'n play. 6.2 detected all of my hardware without a hitch other then the fact that my PCMCIA NIC tried to load before the PCMCIA module. If I let the system boot and then load PCMCIA manually first and then my NIC everything works.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yep, I changed the boot order so that PCMCIA is loaded before Ethernet initialization. You should read up on the init scripts first before you try to play around with it.

Have you checked www.linux-laptops.net (http://www.linux-laptops.net) ?

I know I wouldn't mind a thread on linux laptop issues.

I just got a used laptop and while I've had some questions answered here (this board is the best by far) on that and other subjects, I just KNOW I'm gonna have dozens more as I get more and more set up.

That same thing happens to me with redhat 6.2.
I just changed the order in my rc directories and everything went fine.
