Gentoo installation stage 2- emerge system problem

Hi
after stage 1
I typed in a command I wasn't suppose to and I think I told the installation to locate the installation files from the internet, and now when ever I enter "emerge system" the computer says
" Couldn't download portage-2.0.50-r1.tar.bz2"

what should I do to continue the installation?

Do you still have network connection? Can you "ping google.com"?

Are you using the Universal CD to avoid installing from the internet?

if you still have that same shell open just press the up arrow on the keyboard, it should contain a history of all your typed commands.
