using Mandrake 10 with gnome as m gui.

Of the two users I added during installation only one of them can login to gnome now. I logged in as root and deleted the bad users and recreated him along with another test user, however both display the same error.

When I login as either of the users gnome terminates immeadiately. If i do this from the selection screen mandrake tells me that my xsession has lasted less than 10 seconds and there might be an error. It advised me to look at the file .xsession-errors which at one time had 4 lines of information... but now for some reason it does not contain anything.

Any general ideas what could be the problem?

(Also nautilus is getting a seg fault every time i log into gnome on root or the good user.... just thought i'd drop that in)

-Thanks
Charles

I managed to get the .xsession-errors log to have its data back.. it only seems to be filled when i log into gnome from gdm.. not via startx or anything else. Anyway here is the log

/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/bin/X11/sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers" -h "" -l ":0" "test"
/etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
/etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Setup done, will execute: /usr/bin/ssh-agent -- /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession
